Hey, you can help us spread the word!

Volunteer of the month: Nischal Mothkuri

As you look into the quiet  and confident face of Nischal Mothkuri, little can you guess what is running across his mind. But the determination in his eyes and his gentle ways with the children speak volumes of his intention. Yes, he is here to make a difference and yes, he is giving it his best. Nischal is  Software Engineer by profession with  a great interest in Development sector. He has  been working and volunteering for NGOs for some time now and  has been volunteering with Dream A Dream  for the past 3 months. “The experience has been great” , He says nodding emphatically.

“ Why Dream a Dream?” We asked him. And pat came the reply. Like his thought process his words are clear and very direct.“The aspects of Dream A Dream that impressed me the most are -  range of volunteering options available, good organizational structure and a diverse team of motivated individuals. Given how important the role of 'communication with volunteers and stakeholders plays in NGOs', Dream A Dream does a wonderful job of reaching out, staying in touch and spreading its message”. Every engine needs fuel so what is it that keeps Nischal going? According to Nischal, “I like interacting with children and I like it when I can motivate students to learn or do something new. It is the hope of making a positive difference in a child's life that keeps me going!” “I think I have learnt a lot too. Every interaction with children is a learning experience in itself. It improves my understanding of the world around me. In that sense, this experience with Dream A Dream has helped me grow as an individual.” “Small stories that make you happy happen everyday”. Nischal is excited to share one such story with us. “My best experience with Dream A Dream so far has been with the LearnIT initiative. Over a period of two months, I saw the children of Excellent English School learn computer skills. But what pleased me the most was the fact that during this period they picked up vital team skills, grew in confidence, learnt to take initiative and took pride in being able to give a presentation in front of an audience. There was a shared sense of excitement among volunteers, facilitators and students. Hope to contribute more in days to come.” Nischal makes sure he is at the DreamConnect Center everyday. Some of the young adults like to bring him tough parts from college and school texts that need a re explanation. Accounts, commerce, science, English. Name it and Nischal is there to help. Our interview with Nischal is over  but it does look like he has many things lined up that need his attention. A small hand pulling at his shirt ……. A monitor that refuses to listen…… a diagram in the book that needs some deciphering ……..and we know the children have found an inspiring role model.
