Special Feature: 12-year old Jake brings Colour to Dream A Dream

What happens when a 12-year decides to colour the world happy? The world becomes a very beautiful place filled with hope and magic! We at Dream A Dream discovered this magic last month.

'Colour Me Happy'  is a concept that Jake and and his dad James developed through Jake's love of art and his belief that with art there is a total freedom of expression, there is no right or wrong and it brings happiness not only to the artist but all those who come in contact with the art.

They brought this initiative to Dream A Dream between 16th – 23rd August and bowled us over with their creative energy, enthusiasm and commitment to doing an excellent art project for children at Dream A Dream.

Every afternoon, they went to a different Partner NGO center and conducted a variety of creative activities engaging over 100 children through the week. From drawing the beautiful Taj Mahal and making city scapes, from face portraits to portraits of their friends, Jake and Jim kindled the imagination of the children and pushed to explore their creative boundaries. The children took to 12-year old Jake’s charm and quickly became friends with him overcoming barriers of language, colour and country. Jake and James doing a little Bollywood dance

Additionally Jake and his parents, James and Victoria, also reached out to their friends to support this project. In just over a month, they managed to collect 450 Kgs worth of Art Materials, Raise over 2000 GBP for the “Life Skills Thru Creative Arts” program at Dream A Dream and also convinced DHL Bahrain to ship the materials to Bangalore completely free of cost. Given the huge amount of paper, paints, brushes, etc. donated, the children will be able to continue to have many more art sessions.

For James, this was an amazing way to also introduce Jake to the wonderful world of giving and learning from the world around. He said, “Thank you very much for your support with Jake's project, Colour Me Happy!  It was a great development opportunity for Jake and I think the children also benefited and enjoyed both the art and having something different, if only for one session. We are very impressed with your work and look forward to staying associated with you and Dream A Dream for many years to come.”

We wish Jake and his project 'Colour Me Happy’ many more years of spreading this joy in the lives of children across the world
