Dream A Dream is in the final stages of volunteer recruitment for the Dream Mentoring Program commencing in January 2011. Sign up today to make a difference in a child’s life! If you know colleagues, friends, family who would be interested in becoming a mentor, please refer them across to us.
The Program The Dream Mentoring Program tries to help an adolescent/child, who may be at risk or vulnerable, make the transition from an institutional support care system to an independent living environment. Mentoring can prepare and help the child/adolescent to positively cope with challenges of daily life and learn to make informed decisions in life as he/she enters adulthood. The Role A mentor plays the role of a friend, a role model, a motivator, a guide. Through active listening, validation, and encouragement, mentors help the child/adolescent cope with day-to-day challenges, develop confidence to find his/her own solutions and with some guidance make informed decisions. The interaction over a long period between mentor & child also develops skills and awareness needed for transition to adulthood.
