Dream A Dream has been active in Mumbai Marathon for the past couple of years. Our attempt to leverage the marathon platform to raise funds for the programs has been successful because we have received wonderful support from runners willing to run for a cause and choosing Dream A Dream as their charity. This year 3 runners have already set in motion their pledge raising drive.
a) According to Abhijeet Mehta, “I have participated in the Mumbai Marathon since 2007 and used it as a means to raise funds for my chosen organisation: Dream A Dream. In 2007, I started of apprehensively in the 7 Km celebration walk in Mumbai and managed to raise a small amount of funds too. But what struck me was that so many of my friends, family and even acquaintances came forward so willingly to contribute to my cause. I was quite motivated after this experience and have since successfully participated in the 2008 event and 2009 event. I hope to participate in the 2011 Mumbai Marathon in less than 2 months’ time, complete the full marathon and also raise at least Rs. 1 Lac for Dream A Dream. I find this a great way to raise awareness about Dream A Dream's work and how it impacts children positively. Through this fund raising drive, many friends have come forward to become volunteers too and I hope to continue this effort for many more years to come. b) According to Bhasker Sharma, “Come January 2011 I will be participating in the Mumbai Marathon for the 8th year in a row. And for 5 of these years I have been using the Mumbai marathon as the fulcrum for my fundraising for Dream A Dream. Running for a cause is very popular around the world and has of late picked up in India as well. Especially at the Mumbai event one sees numerous runners running in support of various causes. It is a great way to publicly commit and achieve one's goals of fitness/endurance as well as supporting a cause that one identifies with. Combining running and raising money for an organization like Dream A Dream has been a tremendous experience giving me joy and satisfaction. I sincerely hope that the tribe of people doing this continues to grow in years to come!
