"I want to do more with my life and be independent."
"I
am from Bangalore. My mother left home when I was young as my parents
had a lot of problems at home. I used to be a drifter and a rag picker.
I used to idle away my time near shops and would get bored. I dreamed
of studying and doing something more with my life.
When
I was 10 years old, after an attempt to study in some school in
Bannerghatta Road in Bangalore, I came in contact with an organization
called Ananya. That was in 1999. They helped me with my education and
gave me a place to stay at center. It was here while studying in school
that I got really interested in sports. And I came to know of Dream A
Dream.
Dream A Dream's sports program
in field hockey helped me become more disciplined. I made new friends
and I loved the idea of team work and the responsibility I had as a
goal keeper. I dream of playing for my school, state and who knows even
for the national level. I'm a great goal keeper and I'm now planning to
complete my schooling and pursue my interest in hockey.
Today
I work with Dream A Dream. I am going to live with my younger brother
and work very hard to fulfill my dreams. I want to build another Dream
A Dream so that many more children can benefit.
Yes, I too can dream. It's fun to see it coming true."

"I dream of a day when all the children can afford to dream. Like me, I want them to have hope and fulfill their aspirations."
"My name is Prem. I am from a nearby tribal village on the outskirts of
Bangalore. My parents and siblings live there. I was brought to
Bangalore by a shelter for children called Vishwas. I used to study in
Kannada medium school. Then I shifted to an English medium school.
Do
you know I know 7 languages? I can speak Hindi, Kannada, Tamil,
Malayalam, English, Telugu and even Rajasthani. While studying at
school I came in contact with Dream A Dream. You see, Dream A Dream and
Vishwas work together for the children and conduct many programs for
the children at Vishwas.
They conduct
leadership programs for children and arts & crafts programs and
even drama programs. I love to write poetry. When I was in the 6th
standard, I won a competition, Aradhana Dhwani, for the best poetry. I
am now going to write short stories in English. I'm studying to be an
Instrumentation Technician and am doing my 1st year Diploma from Oxford
College.
Today, I too dream of doing more with my life.
Yes, it's wonderful to dream and see some of my dreams coming true."

"I know I can accomplish so much more.
So what if I have to work hard. Dreams are for making it come true no?"
"I
live in Bangalore with my parents and 2 sisters. My father is
unemployed and my elder sister doesn't keep too well. I am the sole
bread winner of the family.
While
studying in my 10th grade, my friends told me about an organization
called Makkala Jagriti. I went out of curiosity to know more and found
that they help girls and boys like me to study.
I
am currently doing my 2nd year Pre-University course in Commerce. Dream
A Dream and Makkala Jagriti work together on some leadership
development skills and Computer programs for school children. That's
how I came to know about Dream A Dream and today work here as an
employee and then attend evening college.
With
my earnings I have to get my sister's appendix operated, pay for my
younger sister's school fees and complete my education. I want to be a
lecturer and want to complete a Masters program in Commerce."
Anil
"Anil
is fifteen years old and a regular participant in the Dream Football
and Udaan Life Skills programs. This year he also attended a Dream
Adventure Camp where he participated in swimming, boating, tenting,
trekking and a solo survival overnight".
Bobbymon,
a Dream A Dream Program Coordinator was amazed at the transformation
that Anil went through as a result of the experience, "It was amazing
to see Anil took leadership and the interaction among the group members
when his group was assigned to take a decision to make food menu for
the day. He democratically led the discussion in his group and
finalized a wonderful menu. His confidence and courage were shown when
he was the one who survived in the night while all other children
discontinued the activity when is started to rain. .Anil was also the
one who mediated in between groups of children who did not know each
other as well and he actually showed off his communication skills,
explaining things well to the other group members and showing
leadership on his part for sure."
Sharath, 10 years
"At
the adventure program I learnt how to swim and cook. I even picked up
the twigs myself to start a fire for my team. I can't believe I swam to
an island along with my friends though I had just learnt how to swim. I
also enjoyed being part of the Drama program, when I grow up I wish to
be an actor and do stunts and acrobatics in films."
